Cornerstone Intern House

What:​ Cornerstone Intern House in College Park, Maryland, is a housing option for Washington, D.C. summer interns. Sponsored by National Student Leadership, Cornerstone has provided a unique family-oriented atmosphere for the summer for nearly 20 years. Residents of Cornerstone can look forward to a family-like atmosphere, with home-cooked dinners Monday through Thursday evenings and weekly house meetings featuring speakers who discuss servant leadership, community service, and relationships. Past speakers have included Members of Congress from both political parties, Capitol Hill staffers, business leaders and various D.C. community leaders. The hope is that Cornerstone would provide a fun atmosphere for summer interns who seek to learn and grow not only in their career objectives but also in their relationships.​ ​

 

When:​ The house will open June 1st - August 1st, 2016. (Extended dates may be available upon request). ​​

 

Cost: $250 pro-rated weekly (includes utilities and dinners Monday-Thursday). Space is limited in the house, and placement is made on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be notified of your acceptance or placement on the waiting list within two business days of submission. Upon acceptance, your first 4 weeks' rent ($1000) and a $100 down payment are due immediately in order to reserve your space.

 

Location: College Park, Maryland (University of Maryland) 

 

Rooms: All rooms are comparable to a college dorm room and furnished with twin beds and a dresser. You will need to provide your own linens along with anything else you need. The rooms are designed to house between two and four students. If there is a person you would like to request as a roommate, please make a notation on your application. If you do not have a roommate choice, you will be assigned a roommate. The house is co-ed with single sex floors and bathrooms.

 

Kitchen: Kitchen facilities are available in the house, and many students purchase lunch supplies and bring lunch to work. A continental breakfast and home cooked dinners are provided Monday-Thursday nights.

 

Laundry: Coin-operated laundry facilities are located in the house. A dry-cleaning shop is also located nearby.

 

Shopping: Several stores and restaurants are within walking distance, including a convenience store and pharmacy.

 

Public Transportation: It is a 5 - 10 minute walk from the house to the College Park Metro stop on the green line. The commute to Capitol Hill on the Metro is about 40 minutes, with a round-trip fare of approximately $7 (SmartTrip info is available here). Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from their internships.

 

Parking: Street parking passes for the summer are available and cost $10 for the summer. Parking on Capitol Hill costs $10/day at Union Station.
